Brisbane living
Am being interviewed for a job in Brisbane next week and am just trying to do some research on the city and in particular cost of living.
Have visited the city before and liked it alot but never really looked into specific areas to live and respective rental prices. Right now im living in Clapham in London and pay £120 p/w for a nice double room in a nice 4 bed terraced "student" type house. Are there any similar areas in Brisbane that are popular among people looking to rent ?? importantly im also looking to move somewhere similar to clapham i.e. with nice bars, good resterants, plenty nightlife for the usual 20 - 35 young professional (what ever those are) type crowd (Im 23). Any suggestions much appreciated.
Also the office is in Milton "cribb st" how far is this from the CBD and also how acessable is it ? cheers

Hi Stuart,
Cribb Street is a short walk from Park Road where you will find several good bars/restaurants.(I can thoroughly recommend the Rue de Paris foodwise). Also a short walk away is Caxton Street, which has many bars etc or Rosalie. A short train ride or cab trip away (or a good walk) is the city, and a bit further out Fortitude Valley which is virtually wall to wall bars, nightclubs etc.
As for where to rent, a search on www.realestate.com.au on Milton and surrounding areas will give you some idea of what to expect. Depending on what you're after you will find that rents are very reasonable. For maps of the area www.whereis.com.au is quite useful. As you'll be working in Milton I would suggest staying north of the river, and you will find there is plenty of accomodation available.
Hope this helps
Jim

If you're working in Milton I can recommend living in Paddington or even Toowong - nice areas, lots of pubs (the Regatta! or the Paddo Hotel!), restaurants, the Suncorp Stadium etc.
Plus it's walking distance from the CBD (well, 20 minutes or so). Busses and trains run into the CBD all the time as well.
Good luck

Other suburbs worth considering would be Auchenflower and Red Hill.
Good Luck

The Courier Mail on Saturday has loads of units/houses for rent and also has share accommodation which can be good if you don't have any furniture and don't want to live alone. Most rental properties have a cooker but no fridge, washing machine or furniture.
I was driving around Brisbane today-Wilston,Newmarket, New Farm, and there are loads of units/houses with For Rent boards. They usually want references and a months bond.

New Farm is great, too! And you can take the ferry to work...;-)
Used to live in the Valley as well - great spot for nightlife, can be a bit noisy sometimes...
