I resort to wearing socks indoors in winter but don't think we've had to worry about jumpers in doors and didn't use the heating at all last winter

ETA - should really be we haven't used heating at all here (yet)

Really? That's colder than Sydney. Here the average minimum in winter is 8 degrees. That's the coldest it gets in the middle of the night in winter.

Weather Averages for Sydney, Australia
Weather, Temperatures, Climate, Sunshine & Rainfall for Sydney & NSW : sydney.com.au

I had no idea that Brisbane was that much colder than Sydney..

There are a couple of nights in june july it gets really cold, like 5C or something, so clear though it feels freezing. We have a big log burner up there so used to love those nights.

In melb we have nice plastic laminate floors and no insulation, it was so cold some mornings you would get out of bed and blow steam, you know see your breath I would boil the kettle and the water would crack the cups they were so cold. I missed that log burner so much

It doesn't often drop that low, but we usually get a few days each winter. Around Ipswich and Toowoomba, and then a bit further inland it reguarly drops to 0 or below freezing.

Wouldn't happen to be one of those cheaply made, and cheap materials, but expensive to buy stick huts the so called property developers sling up over here?

The older brick buildings fair better

It Isn't colder, it is warmer...just confusing as people are talking about extremes rather than averages. It can feel cold at night sometimes specially given the daytime averages more than 20c even in the coldest month.

Brisbane can get down to 4C at night in winter and the further into the suburbs from the CBD the colder it will get.

Ipswich will regularly get down to freezing on and off during the winter.

Yes the daytime temp is pretty nice at 16-24C as a baseline but due to few houses being insulated here and even less having any sort of heating then whatever the temp is outdoors won't be too far off what it is indoors
