Default Brisbane Council Rates

Had a letter from BCC yesterday informing us that our rates are likely to go up by 27% next year. That's over $400 .

Suppose this is to pay for Councillor Newman's network of tunnels which will vastly improve all our lives.

Living in paradise dont come cheap you should see jayrs leccy bill and cucumber thread :scared:

Serious side, see the news is full of expecting another interest rate rise next week, getting pretty high now, they had perth on TV talking the combined impact on families of petrol rises, food rises, housing cost rises, and now interest rate rises possibly again. Claiming next interest rate rise will be breaking point for many, bit dramatic but aussies take rate rises very hard, wonder if they will go up.

Perhaps Vash will come on later to tell us we can't possibly be paying this much! Mind you, with % rises like these, no wonder he's out of touch.

Havent got mine yet, I will watch out for it in the mailbox today.

Ours has aready gone up dramatically because of the increase in UCV - from memory it was about $100/quarter it went up, it will be astronomical now, around about $700/quarter .

Of course Vash wont believe that anyone would or should be paying that much, we all need to move to Adelaide hills where the bills are cheap & the living is easy .

ETA - of that only $50 is water AND we dont even have sewerage , so no charges for that .

Edited again to add - Jane is that 27% on everything or only on the general rates? If its on everything I just worked out 27% increase on our current bill will mean it will go up to $770/quarter (assuming that our water usage stays around the same)

Unimproved Capital Value - so the value (determined by a valuer - not always a true reflection of market value) of the block of land with no improvements (obviously )

27% on general rates and then about 7% rise in the cost of water. We also don't pay sewerage but we have all kinds of environmental levies extra.

Yep ok a 27% increase on general rates only that means our rates will be up to around $740/quarter then - cheap as chips .
