Brisbane commute

Any ideas on the best commutable highway from an eastern Coastal Brisbane suburb to the CBD
I've looked at clevedon and Brighton etc as places to live, but there's probably easier highway commute, am I right to say the northern highway is better rather than the highway from the GC
Thanks

They are all great highways as long as you don't travel on them between 6am and 9am, then 4pm - 6:30pm weekdays...

Seriously, none of them will get you into town quickly if you need to travel during peak.

I've only commuted from the Gold Coast to Brisbane and suffice to say I'm really keen to land a job I have just seen next to the Hyperdome.

If I had to work in the CBD then the train would be the go.

Train all the way mate. Choose a suburb that gets you close to a main line. The Gateway is the biggest joke of a highway! I live further out than Brighton (Redcliffe) and commute everyday to St Lucia (UQ) and I avoid The Gateway at all costs. I take all the minor roads and I would estimate that it saves me at least 20-30 mins each way. Unfortunately, Redcliffe does not have a train line, so car commute is the only feasible means of transport

I have often travelled the minor roads when the main roads are busy....... its the only way to do it and it does not add extra to your trip :D

The other problem with the gateway (north) is that you have very limited options open to you if traffic is crap as there are very few exits. You also don't have main roads on both sides of it. So once you're on it, you're stuck on it. Take one of the few exits and you will be one of thousands doing the same thing

Why? I live in Redcliffe and drive to North Boondall train station and get the train in like a lot of Redcliffe residents do.

Because door to door (Redcliffe to St Lucia) is over two hours Mr Martyr. I've done it many times. If I had the luxury of working in the city then I could potentially do it in just over an hour. Spending 4 hours commuting to and from work everyday by train/bus versus 2 and a half by car, there's no competition

Looks like the train line to (near) redcliffe has really finally got funding. Google have even added it to their maps. :)

Yeah, it's actually been part of a lot of the govt based maps for about 15 years I believe. I really do hope it does go ahead, that should really relieve the roads a lot more. I was quite disappointed when they spent $350m on building a new bridge. I didn't think it was essential, however a railway line was. I'm still quite nervous that it won't get through though. It requires funding from 3 levels of government, all three of which do not look like getting back in come next round of elections :fingerscrossed:
