Default brisbane area or Melbourne area??

Just looking at both as a possiblity, but was wondering what kind of facilities are near by, such as theme parks, zoos, etc. I know brisbane had southbank, does melbourne have something similar, looking for somewhere kids would like. Also annual climate, what is it like for a bricklayer working during summer in brisbane? is it really hot or bearable, and what is it like in melbourne??

your opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance x

I think if you've got young kids Queensland's probably better and if you have older kids Melbourne may well be better.

Nah, the Brissy thing has beaches while the Melbourne southbank doesn't, although they have started talking about building one. Dunno how popular it will be, as there are plenty of beaches close by anyway. Both are great hanging out places with loads of cafes/restaurants/markets etc.

If theme parks is your whole reason for being somewhere, then Brissie wins hands down. Melbourne, and Victoria, has plenty of things to do, but theme parks ain't one of them. Perhaps in a couple of years it may change....there's a development happening around the docklands at the moment.....but for now there ain't no theme parks here.

I ain't got kids, but from the people I know who do, I don't reckon it's the kids that are going to be a problem with resettling anywhere in Australia. If the parents are happy in their new environment, then the kids will be happy, and the kids often settle in quicker.

Out of curiosity, apart from the theme parks, what does Brisbane have for young children that Melbourne doesn't? Not being argumentative - as I really don't know and just wondered.

I haven't lived in Brisbane, so can't comment on that area. However, Melbourne's bay beaches are perfect for young ones as the sea is generally very calm and shallow. We also have a lake beach close to us, which again is great for splashing around in the shallows.

I was really thinking in terms of the weather, in that you can go to the parks and pools for longer during the year.

Ah, I see. Yes, beach-wise certainly. Saying that, I'm quite pleased not having to fret about keeping them covered in sun suits/lotion for more than 6 months of the year I guess kids don't even notice the QLD summer humidity - I know my girls don't seem bothered by the 40oC+ days here

Well, we've had the coldest winter for 10 years apparently - so I'm ready for Spring! Mind you, the girls have not worn proper coats all winter - don't think they feel the cold either

The shopping is better in Brisbane - as per my wifes reaction after being left with my credit card and an afternoon in Brisbane CBD.

She said the selection and variety was better.

I have to respect her advice - it came at a cost
