Bringing motorbike to Aus'

Re: Bringing motorbike to Aus'
I'm coming out on spouse visa as the wife's Australian. Am heading out at the end of March, and the bikes 2001.
I'm starting to wonder if it's a good idea now if it is as much hassle as what's being said. The trouble is that 2nd hand bikes seem to be fairly pricey in Australia.
Argh - dunno what to do!

It is a hassle if you import a non-standard bike, plus it depends where which state you're heading for... What sort of bike is it?
We looked at so many second hand bikes over here before we bought one... there are some bikes on the road over here that just need to be scrapped!! One was being sold a member of the local constabulary.. it was the biggest pile of crap... there was so much wrong with it - from cracked tyres, leaking fork seals, almost non-existent brakes... it was dangerous and should never have been on the road.. but it had a roadworthy, so he was legally able to sell it.... shady or what?
We've got a '99 ZRX1100 for sale - very tidy bike - 2 new tyres, it's got about 52K on it... recent service, just put 6 months rego on it, all standard (bleurgh!)... it's even got a lambwool seatcover if you're interested?!
Good luck with your decision.....
