F150's etc. (all vehicles within 30 years of age MUST be converted to RHD) don't have excemption. You'd find that all of these vehicles are in fact RHD or registered in WA or NT.

HUGO
In SA they can be left as LHD as long as you carry a warning sign..........mm

Default Re: shipping left hand drive hummer h2

[A Hummer H2 would fit easy inside a shipping container, width wise. They are 81.2 inche (206) cm wide, a shipping container is about a foot and a half wider!![/QUOTE]

Door width on a 40ft standard container is 7.64 inches [2.33m]...? ....mm

In general the process is identical for importing the vehicle from the US as it is from the UK so 95% of my article will apply to you as well.

If you provide me with the following information I will try and work up a rough on the road estimate guide of you. I'll make sure to convert the chart to US Dollars instead of Pounds Sterling. Do you happen to have a rough idea of the shipping costs from Florida ?
  • Make
  • Model
  • Model Type
  • Body Type
  • Engine size
  • Transmission
  • Year of Manufacture
  • Mileage
  • Condition
  • What you believe the car is worth in the UK ?

So an example would be:
  • Make: Toyota
  • Model: Land Cruiser
  • Model Type: LC4
  • Body Type: 4 Door
  • Engine size: 2982cc
  • Transmission: Manual 4x4/4x2
  • Year of Manufacture: 2004
  • Mileage: 15,000m
  • Condition: Excellent
  • What you believe the car is worth ? £15,000. Usually £21,000 but the market is not good now

Be as specific as possible

If you have owned the car for over 12 months then you can import as a standard Personal Import, but if you have owned it for less than twelve months then you can investigate importing the marque under Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS) . This only applies to certain marques (see the SEVS section of my article) and allows you to bypass the 12 months ownership requirement.

A 2005 Hummer H2 is viable under the Scheme but you must be able to find a mechanic capable of doing the ADR compliance test. Best place to find this is in some sort of Australian Hummer Forum, but be prepared for some odd search results when you type that one in

...and the estimate you have been given for shipping to Australia ?

This is important because it is needed for the calculations.

On below article, good reading if you click the link!! I Noticed this though, with regards to the hummer (if it's LHD) and the Porsche (If it's LHD):

[edit] PrerequisitesTo be eligible for a personal import the following criteria must be satisfied:

The vehicle must be in a right hand drive configuration

So how would one get over that?? convert it to RHD first??

I didn't say that I was an expert on importing US cars or an expert on anything to be honest. All I have done is imported my own car, documented the process/costs and try to help answer peoples questions on the subject.

As for importing a LHD marque then you'll have to check with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government (DOITRL). A quick phone call will soon sort this out (+61 2 6274 7111 - ask for Vehicle Importing)

It certainly seems, from my research on the web, that you can import Left Hand Drive vehicles without modification if they were manufactured before 1989. However vehicles manufactured after 1989 need to be converted to Right Hand Drive configuration. This would be done by a mechanic I guess, or a very skilled Dentist if you want to risk it.
