Bring TV to Australia

Hi,

Wondering if anyone knows if a SAMSUNG QE75Q85TATXXU 75" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR QLED TV with Bixby, Alexa & Google Assistant will work in Australia? Only bought it 2 years ago so don't really want to leave it but no point taking it if it doesn't work. TIA.

At a guess - yes.

We bought a TV with us more than 9 years ago that is still going strong - and not particularly hi-spec. It retuned without issue.

Another was retuned as 'Germany' and is also still working.

I have one from 15 years ago. Need to throw it as its old but I run Google and Foxtel through it no issue. Tuning into free to air is a pain, Germany gets most channels as its the closest to the Australian bandwidth but a few tune in like crap, but you can overcome that wirh Foxtel or something if you want to. Probably bring it if you are prepared not run off the aerial if your reception is crap.

Pretty sure UK DTV is broadcast on 8MHz Rf channels in UHF band but Australian DTV uses 7MHz RF channels and uses VHF and UHF bands. Some tv's might cover all scenarios, some might not.
I had a look at your user manual, but they don't list specs for that. As someone else said, it would work on internet and through other devices.
I'd worry about such a big delicate thing getting here in one piece though.

Thanks so much for the replies and efforts in helping out. I think perhaps I may try to sell it along with the house. Cheers again.

Personally, I'd bring it. Free to air TV in Australia is rubbish and you really can totally get by without it. Your TV hooked up to a streaming box like an Amazon Fire TV stick, Nvidia Shield or Apple TV will give you more streaming options than you would ever need - plus you can download a ton of content. Saying that, TVs are generally much cheaper here compared to the UK if you were buying a new one

Having a TV that can't pickup domestic Australian television is a bonus in my book.

Bring it! You won't be able to use the aerial but a set top box or internet will work. To move it hear will be cheaper than buying new one.

Definitely! Had to sit through an entire evening of Aussie tv at work last night as my colleagues wanted to watch some weird reality show. Served to remind me very quickly why I have no tv in my flat!

I brought my Samsung 50 inch TV from the UK 8 years ago, it was able to pick up digital TV through the inbuilt tuner fine..., the netflix app still works as well. I had to reset the TV and chose Australia as my region, not sure if that had any impact.

But as everyone mentioned, most people have an Apple TV or other smart device plugged in.

I bought a 12 year old UA55C7000 samsung from AU to UK,,,,
some freeview channels work, BUT, time zone couldn't be set properly meaning most wont...

BUT, don't really worry about Free to air, just get an optus box / foxtel box or whatever else is out there nowadays, use your amazon stick / netflix / hulu / whatever to stream digital media as normal!

A smart tv will be able to load the free to air apps so you can watch if you like. Some good stuff and films on cbs and abc (admittedly often from Uk!)
