Re: Brickies Rates
Perth is pretty dry on the brickie front at the min I would guess every other city in Oz is the same. There has been a couple of ads in the paper I think the top rate was $250 per day but I've been told theres about 100 brickies applying for each job ad. Not good times here in WA :(

Re: Brickies Rates
Jobs are harder to find but there is still work going on. Take a drive around any new housing estate and there are still new houses going up. Your best bet is to look when you get here, anyone you contact will want to meet you and start you straight away. Not sure of bricklayers rates but plasterers, chippies ets are on $37ish per hour in the Brisbane area.
Good luck but be prepared for a bit of a rough ride and possibly spending a while finding work. |
Re: Brickies Rates
dont come over without a few dollars on your hip or your going to be up shitcreek without a paddle..seriously.
the adds in wa are from 200 /250.they get an average of 100/150 calls. the first thing they do is ask you how long you have been here, you either bu11shit and say 2 years or so(experienced),or you tell the truth and unless you lucky there going to offer you next to nothing(no experience). but you may drop lucky,we were and still are but were going to be out in a couple of weeks.. if your confident you can find work, you have got a nest egg for a rainy day..sod it...................... the work aint the best but the sun shines most days..and after all ,there are still other jobs other than laying bricks.. good luck ast.. |

Re: Brickies Rates
It is seriously quiet work wise, theres a driveway poured opposite us this week, the owner of the company was boxing it up himself  This bloke is V well known in the industry, used to do fancy concrete driveways etc on a lot of big homes, at one stage had a fleet of black and silver logo utes and at least 30 guys working for him. Now hes doing the boxing and stripping himself.....
We just got a carpenter mate of ours a job, he had been out of work for almost 3 months, well known chippie with hundreds of contacts, an excellent worker, big aussie bloke the sort who knew everyone in every pub/building site but even he couldnt find work, your hearing that sort of thing all the time now. |

Re: Brickies Rates
Please dont forget, that even if you are earning around $200 - $250 a day, it is unlikely that you will be working every day of the week, most jobs are individual houses at a time and there are often days when the job isnt ready. It definately adds up through the year.
So dont think $250 x 5 x 52 = what I could be earning in a year. Best of luck. |

Re: Brickies Rates
Hi
Hubby is a brickie here in Geelong, has had work since the 2nd week we arrived here (back in Sept '08). Rates around here I would say are approx. $1k a week, but as the others have said thats not for every day. As hes self employed we have to allocate some of that money towards the tax at the end of the year. Not much in the way of advertisements for brickies here, and even when they do I wouldnt hold your breath at anyone getting back to you, it seems you have to chase chase chase before you get a response from ANYONE! But, being persistent and willing to travel a little may help you. Good Luck :) |

Plenty of work in Melbourne, Home builders still very busy. Especially around where the Bush fires were.
Expect around 19 bucks per hour flat rate, 22 bucks minimum Casual. |
