Breaking the lease
I haven't been on much lately as we are now moving out of this rented place next month and shipping our things early so they are there when we arrive..still not going till Sept but living at my mums till then.
Just wondering keep reading snippets of threads where people have been in rented in Aus and then bought a house shortly after arriving.
Whats the situation with breaking the lease over there? We are able to move from here before the 6 months because they want to sell otherwise we would have lost £750.
Do you lose all your bond money?
We have already bought a house in Aus but won't be moving into it until next year so we may buy a wreck and do it up then rent that out when we move into the new one so wondering what the implications of breaking the lease are - or are the lease period not 6 months over there?
Cheers

Re: Breaking the lease
we were able to opt out of our 6 month lease but we would have had to pay readvertising costs until new tenants were found.

We have just broken the lease on our 6 month contract, we have only been in the appartment for less than 3 months.(We have bought a house) We have given in our notice and have to pay a week's rent and readvertising costs which was $300. It seems to be fairly common over here and as the estate agent replied when we asked to break the lease... 'No dramas!!'

PS You are still entitled to your full bond back!

If you want to get out of your lease you have to pay for the remainder of the lease to be advertised. All is fine if someone else wants to take the lease over, if not you wil have to keep paying for the rest of the term. Owners appear quite well protected out here, once you sign for 6 months that is it!
Hopefully someone else wants it, then you don't have to pay.

Re: Breaking the lease
We've just broken our lease and had to keep paying our rent until the house was re-let (luckily only 1 week).
There was a charge of 1 weeks rent to break the lease and as we had paid 3 months in advance, we got our bond and a weeks money back after all the checks on the house were done.
Good luck,
Will.
