Bread Thread....
Hi guys...
Now, you may not think that is important...but my kids would disagree with you...
what is the bread like down under for toast on a morning...bearing in mind that my kids have been terribly spoilt...
Love Caroline...

I recommend the raisin bread particularly.

Kids love wholemeal unsliced...although if left unsupervised they love fresh white unsliced......
but I don't like to encourage this particular practice ..... roughage is important no matter how old you are

Have no fear - you cannot walk down the street without being accosted many times to procure lattes, bagels, croissants, muffins, and many other cosmopolitan european bread based pastries. All of which are readily available in supermarkets. Bread is same - its not like american bread which is of course pants.

Re: Bread Thread....
Can we extend this question to include: muffins, teacakes, buns, baps, baguettes, croissants, crumpets, pancakes, potato cakes and hot cross buns?
For some reason decent bread (and even indecent bread) costs more here, in Victoria, than in the UK. One of the few things that is more expensive.
Regards
Alistair

I have not found a decent baguette yet but the buns and baps are good. Be careful buying pikelets, they may not be what you expect. They are more like scotch pancakes here (and not very nice ones at that).
For some stange reason most supermarkets seem to have 2 separate bread sections (along with 2 or sometimes 3 cheese sections). I seem to have got used to this because I got confused in Somerville's Safeway where they had all of the bread in one section.
Cheers

Re: Bread Thread....
Did someone mention pain-au-chocolat?
I have a nose like a bloodhound when it comes to sniffing out the stuff.
Don't they sell those chilled things over there? Like the Pilsbury (one L or two? Never am sure) dough boy ones, where you unroll the big roll of pastry, separate out the individual pieces and roll back up with a stick of chocolate, then bake yourself?
If not, they bleeding well should!
