Default Bought our tickets to Perth

For any others who are going to Perth and looking for a decent deal.

We bought our tickets direct through Malaysian Air (0870-607-9090), and it was only about £20 more expensive than if we`d gone through an agent. I`d rather go direct though as it`s easier to sort things out along the way. Beware of taxes going up though, as on the friday my quote was £25 cheaper than the monday when I booked. About £850 for 2 adults and an infant (the infant ticket was about £60).

Adults are allowed 20kg each, and the infant is allowed 10kg luggage. Hand luggage is 5kg each I think. They said we could probably get away with an extra 4 or 5 kg in our luggage as we are emigrating, although they don`t have any official allowance for emigre`s anymore.

You can request a Bassinet for your baby (which we did). It`s up to a 12-month old in size.
If you wanted a seat for your infant or child, it would cost around £300
You can request child meals or jars of baby food for your infant. We`ll go for the child meals for her and she can have the spaghetti and juice, and we`ll have the choolate and crisps Plus we`ll take our own baby food with us as well.

As it`s such a long flight and we have the little girl, we decided to have a couple of stopovers (as there`s no extra for the flights, so we`d only have to pay for hotel and food etc). Stopovers can be at Langkawi (a little peaceful island), Penang (a little island... much more commercialised), and Kuala Lumpur (the capital).

Malaysian fly direct to Langkawi on Wednesdays and Sundays (19:05 from Heathrow).
They fly direct to Penang on Tuesdays and Saturdays (19:05 from Heathrow).
They fly direct to KL every day (12:00 I think from Heathrow).

We opted for Langkawi for 7 nights (so are leaving direct on a Sunday), and through Malaysian the Hotel/Resort (3-star) that is cheapest there is £17pp the first night, and £13pp every other night:

Then we opted for 4 nights in Kuala Lampur before hitting Perth. It`s a 5-star Hotel for £19pp the first night, then £11pp every other night.

Both hotels include breakfast, and transfer to/from the airport (which would normally be £20 each way in itself). The only extra we may have to pay is for the cot we requested for the baby.

If Langkawi is chosen as a stopover, then you have to spend one night in KL before you can get a direct flight to Perth. Otherwise your only choice is to get the late Perth flight on Sundays and Thursdays: Langkawi (19:35) - KL - Kaching (21:50) - Perth (05:45). Kaching is a short `bus-stop`. With our baby we didn`t want so much on/off stuff, so we opted for the 09:40 from KL direct to Perth.

The next cheapest flights were on Singapore, and Singapore Air allow 30kg each adult when emigrating.

We found www.traveljungle.co.uk and www.austravel.co.uk to be the best for prices, apart from direct through Malaysia Air.

Hopefully that helps other people in their big move.
