Have also got Soundwave tomorrow that I'm going to with:
Nine Inch Nails Alice in Chains Bloodhound Gang and many more heavy/alternative acts. The live music scene in Perth is something you definitely cannot complain about. You get the big acts, plus the local scene is very good. It is what you make it. |

Exactly. I was out in Perth last Friday night until 4am and had an absolute blast.
It is what you make it. I had a great night out until the early hours in Lewisham, South London last time I was in the UK. Doesn't mean I would want to live there though. |

Doesn't mean I would want to live there though. I live in Perth and love it. Boring/isolated it is not - anyone who says it is needs to get a life. Each to their own. |

What are the house prices like in Perth? Can you get some land for a good price?

Burswood can be hit or miss in my opinion, depending on the amount of curtains used to prevent reverb.
I went to Santana last year and it HAS to be the best sounding concert I have ever heard. The sound was stunning and the difference that I could see was only 1/2 the seating was being used and a large number curtains draped throughout the dome. Last we had a choice between Coldplay and the Veronicas.... Seen Coldplay so went to The Veronicas! Never seen so many 8-10 year old girls in one room  After concert went to Subiaco to eat (11.00pm) then went to some bars in Subi... so Perth boring???? Not if you get out and have a good time. :) |

Geographically, maybe it is. But "isolated" can have a number of interpretations. To me, it certainly doesn't feel isolated from the rest of civilization. I have no great sense of a huge void between Perth and the Rest Of Humanity.
b The only time I feel that it is isolated is when I feel the need to go abroad. Being a teacher I'm restricted to high season and it's the flight prices that make me feel isolated. Having said that I've just managed to get all the family to Indonesia in July for $1800 (flights only) - 800 quid for 4 people on a 4 and a half hour return flight is pretty good. Just been searching for roughly equivalent flights from the UK and for roughly the same length of flight - to Tenerife, about 4 hours - is about 1300 quid minimum but more likely 1500 quid (BMI). This is another reason why I think that those ideas of accessing Europe when you live in the UK are sometimes false. If you have the flexibility then all well and good but if you have kids who are in crucial years of education or you work in education then access is very restricted - unless you have loads of dosh. Also, if you have travelled to Europe as a youngster - as I have - then you might prefer the wilds of Indonesia and SE Asia to a culture which is very similar to your own. Now, whether I'll feel isolated in 10 years..... |

Up in Wanneroo eh? heheh I work for the council managing their website. I initially thought 'how naff', but then looked at it for what it was, a free family fun event.
We've also got the Choirboys coming up as a free gig. So anyone looking for a semi-big Aussie rock band, that'll be worth seeing. Exactly it was a park, picnic, a few drinks with family and friends.........and little old Leo!!! It was a bit of a laugh and we'll probably head on up to Two Rocks to see The Choirboys. |

And yes Perth is isolated for better or worse each must make their own mind up on that....and yes Perth can be stifling and boring for many. Often very valid comments with regards to this subject are raised and instead of attacking the critic would be far more constuctive for people to not be so complacent and demand better. |

I keep coming across this stuff. Why? Is Perth really dullsville? Is this an accurate assessment? Can I qualify for life in Perth? Most of the stuff im interested in is outdoor stuff, not a pub person, like bbq's, surfing, trailbikes, walking the dog, chilling out with a decent book, camping, and playing music. |

What is the overall vibe in Perth? Hippy chic? Conservative? Liberal? Left? etc etc. You say Perth was quiet compared to Brisbane? Brisbane is also very quiet in the cbd especially at weekends it is virtually deserted after 4pm. I lived near to Fortitude Valley and quite liked the grungy feel. Surfing was good being close to Burleigh heads and a few other quality spots etc. I like the idea of a desert being close by. For anyone who has spent time living in Vegas, how does it compare? |
Re: Boring Perth?
Leo Sayer and The Choirboys? No wonder it was free lol!The Choirboys were around when I was teenager and that was too many years ago to remember!

Have never been to Brisbane but two friends from here ,one young other middle aged both thought than Brisbane had the edge over Perth in that the city was more vibrant with more to do. |

Re: Boring Perth?
The point about Perth being geographically isolated doesn't really affect day to day life, does it? You can be in the middle of London or New York and some would find their life isolated, perhaps. Boring is relative to what you do and whether you enjoy doing it or not. Surely, Perth has enough culture, intellectual life, beaches and restaurants to satisfy most people.
