Is it a legal requirement in Queensland that a 5 year old must have a booster seat.I've checked previous threads but can't find an answer.Just about to book the car hire.
Cheers

Hi Nick we did with our littlen. Cheaper to buy or take your own over with your (handy for the plane) as the rental companies charge per day. No one at the company said anything about Oliver not initially being on a booster seat tho.

Depends on the company. We flew with cathay Pacific who were happy for Ollie to use his seat. The only thing I will say is half way through the flight Ollie complained of being uncomfortable so it ended up in the storage compartment (followed by us having to haul it everywhere).

Even if you fly without it, get to aus and buy one there, they're fairly cheap (around $48 for a Britex)

Heres a link that may be useful: http://www.bubhub.com.au/infocarseats.shtml

As well as all the legal info it states this:
notes for overseas visitors
All child restraints used in Australia must comply with current Australian standards - one of the main features of which is the use of a rear strap to an anchor point. Australian child restraint standards are some of the most stringent in the world and most overseas child restraints do not comply with these standards and cannot legally be used in Australia - this includes restraints from countries such as the UK and USA. It is advisable to hire a child restraint in Australia from a reputable hire service (see section above) rather than bringing your own from overseas.
The actual QLD laws are:
Babies weighing less than 9kg must be protected in an approved infant restraint (for example baby capsule).

Children weighing between 9-26kg (roughly at age seven) should be restrained in an appropriate Standards Australia approved child restraint (for example child seat, booster seat or child safety harness). There are different restraints for children of different sizes, but if not available, normal seat belts must be used.

As a guide, children weighing more than 26kg are suitable for the standard approved seat belts used by adults.

The driver is responsible and risks a fine of $A225 and three demerit points for ignoring these laws.
http://www.roadsafety.qld.gov.au/qt/...s_seatbeltlaws

Don't take account of what the car hire staff say, they don't incur any fines
