From what I have heard you have to pay for an extra blood test - not sure if its in addition to the tattoo one tho

Doesn't work like that - its the initial piercing that is why you need to be tested

I have one (piercing) and didnt need anything extra other than the normal blood test - which you get anyway incidentally.

I believe the extra blood test to be £120.00 per person, if my other daughter has her piercing £480.00 extra on top of medicals and x rays :scared:

Somebody is having a laugh at the expense of your wallet. I would recheck with a different board doctor. There is certainly no requirement under the medical guidance forms (and little medical reason btw) and it may just be a nice little spinner of that particular practitioner. I certainly didnt do that and niether did my wife and we both have piercings.

Hiya

We had our medicals two weeks ago and my 16 year old daughter and I were asked if we had any tattoos and body piercings (other than our ears). Apparently there are 4 different blood tests they take one for Hep C, one for Rubella (women obviously) and two for tatoos and body piercings (our doctors charge £15 each blood test), fortunately my husband only needed the Hep C one and my daughter and i had the Hep C and Rubella - would have cost another £100 if we needed all 4 each!

I have piercings and there was no mention of it at all at my medical. I did have to take one out for my x-ray, but it wasn't a problem - just put it back again afterwards!
The only reason I can think of any extra tests being done would be if there was a recent piercing, in case of infection - I know you can't give blood within 12 months of a piercing, for example. But that's just them staying on the safe side - you're just as likely to pick something up by cutting yourself.
Even if an extra test was needed, £120 sounds bloody steep!
Definitely ask other doctors - which you should do anyway, as standard prices can vary quite considerably.
