Default Blood Pressure

I have high blood pressure; I’m not over weight and as a general rule fairly healthy.

I’m under the doctor for it but currently don’t take any medication.

Would I get failed on this for the medical

Hi

The short answer to your question is yes you would fail. But if you go to your doctor and get medication which brings down your Blood Pressure, and then declare this on the medical you will probably only have to have some tests to see if the high pressure had caused any damage! I had the same problem and all the panel doctor did was ask my GP if i had any related problems and what was i taking. Once this was confirmed off went the medicals and no further questions were asked!

The thing is my doctor says that I’m at no risk as the moment and does not want to put me on medication as it is not affecting my health.

I have checks every 6 months….

I presume this would be sufficient?

Cheers

All i can say is if you are over the limits on the medical form you will have to prove why! Better to be medicated and pass than open the bigger can of worms which is expensive consulants reports!

Hope this helps

I have high blood pressure, not over weight and passed the medical. I got a letter from my doctor to say that I was on medication and was under control. So I suggest to ge a letter from your doctor explaining the situation, they might charge you.

Ahhh, just took mine - oliver brought home the phygmamomometer (thing you measure Blood pressure with) from his school science dept tonight - mine was 119 over 80 and olivers 128 over 77

so all in all feeling happy at the thought of not failing the meds on BP!

If you are anxious on the day of the medical, your BP and pulse will be up.
How about getting your blood pressure checked several times before you go and get a letter from your GP giving these and his opinion. You will probably have to pay for it. I was lucky my GP didn't charge and I passed mine (High BP well controlled (runs in family) & Overweight)

Interesting..... in the UK we'd medicate for the latter two, and suggest weightloss, cut down alcohol, remove all added salt from diet, and get patient to check/avoid salt levels in all pre-prepared food for all 3 groups.

These are different for diabetics, and possibly other groups of people too.

The WHO has guidelines, which I think are below the limits in the quote above......too busy to look it up at the mo.

There's one recent immigrant who posts - and I can't put a name up for obvious reasons - who failed on the BP test but got it down with diet and exercise, passing later.

Be warned, you can have BP 0 over 0 (clinically dead) but it will be pretty high by the time you have gone through the DIMIA mill!

Hi Skywalker

Yeah, i understand that this is the info that is on the form, i guess that what i was trying to show was 2 things....firstly that these limits are already unhealthily high, and secondly (and thankfully) high blood pressure can usually be successfully treated in several ways.......i wasnt trying to put anyone's BP up - promise!!!
