Hey Jen
sorry to hear about your bites.........here in S.Africa we have similar beasties! You should take garlic capsules daily as they don't like biting people then....also to prevent spread of infection you can put a dot of bactroban(not sure if it's the same name in OZ) ointment at entrance to your nostrils as we spread many germs as we breath so it acts as a barrier.Thirdly to dry up and stop itchiness you can sprinkle some cornflour/cornstarch as it acts as a natural antiseptic.Salt water will also help but you're not near the beach

Well, I also have a bite on my foot, this time swollen, painful and a red blister thing in the centre(not had the blister bit before) anyway mentioned it to sis and she said did u scratch it already, i said yes of course i bloody did i couldn't help it. frown...... she said the thing is not to scratch it ( hard I know) and the bite should be gone in about 2 days!! I don't get bitten very often but next time i do i'll try this and see if it works, had this one now for 2 days and still manky, painful and itchy!! grrr. if all esle fails an large gin and tonic might do the trick!!

Everyone reacts differently to bites, it could be litterally anything that has caused the itchy reaction. I always use SOOVE cream to sort out my bite problems, you can get some with anesthetic in it which works wonders. Or you could stick to vegemite!

I read that if you put your own saliva on it the itch and the bite itself, go away quite quickly! I know of a soldier who tried this and it apparently worked...

Yeah, my grandma swears by that too, although you are missing one step to the treatment. You should also smear cat shit on the soles of your feet then do the can-can

When our son was a young lad we took him up to Fraser Island & he insisted on fishing from the bank, this resulted in him being bitten from head to toe by sand flies. His bites were so bad he still has scars on his legs from scratching. He'd scratch so bad at night we taped thick socks over his hands to stop him scratching.
We find Paraderm Plus the best cream to stop itching.

Oh dear, i feel for you. I have exactly the same problem. Its always those bloody mozzies. Last time i visited oz i had something like 30 bites on my legs that blistered and my whole leg was swollen and went hard, to the point it hurt when i walked! Its always me that gets bitten, My OH says i am a freak! I have not found a way to avoid it but rub aloe vera on them. not convinced it helps, even that stupid spray does not stop the bast@rds! When i lived in the south of France the same thing happened and my boss said i had sweet English skin that they like! If you find a miracle cure let me know!
