A big thank you
We received our passports back this morning with 5 year Oz visas attached.
Wifey on nights so we are both too stuffed to be amusing, coherent or informative.
For those of you that are on the same journey and have posted and shared
many, many thanks.

Re: A big thank you
We are in no rush to go because we look after my folks. They are both elderly with significant health problems and we have no intention of abandoning them.
Our reasons for applying whilst we still have such substantial responsibilites was our belief that getting a visa for OZ is only going to get harder so we applied whilst Oz still needs to populate and requires skilled workers.
Where we go is as yet undecided.
I went round most of OZ 20 years ago and loved every bit of it.My uncle has retired to Adelaide and we have family in Armidale and Sydney as well as lots of former colleagues dotted all over the place.
On the basis of schools and quality of family life I am favouring Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, but I would like to explore all of the different states with Michelle and make a joint decision.
Our reasons for going are the old chestnut of "quality of life".
We are both well placed in the UK professionally but Oz would be good compromise for our kids as Michelle from Philippines originally and I am
UK born and bred so better climate in OZ but also English speaking with strong UK links and much closer to SE Asia for trips back to Philippines.
We are in the fortunate position that we can have a look around for a few months when we arrive and also take career breaks so it doesnt have to be all or nothing.
The visa type we were granted was BN subclass 136 Skilled Independent which I think is the strongest hand. We resisted state sponsorship as we didnt want to be tied to a particular state and Oz seems to be biting nurses hands off at the moment so we didnt need a points boost.
Yes potentially we would earn less money in OZ and sure no where is perfect but I dont want to open up a war about where is best.
We are both public servants in UK and believe a childhood worthy of the name is more achievable in Oz.
Come to that its more achievable in the Philippines even with a lot less money.
I dont belive the UK has totally fallen apart and has a lot of positives but after 19 plus years policing SE London I love to come home and read the Oz is just as bad stuff - hilarious.
So yes a combination of push and pull factors and still a long way to go but what an opportunity.
Oz is somewhere we will both be proud to call home someday. For all of you on BE for helping us along the way and for all your messages of support our heartfelt thanks.
Love Bill and Michelle
