Default Big Pineapples, Prawns, Banana's

Excuse me talking b*ll*cks for a bit, but I haven't been online much for a while and am feeling talkative.

Me and the Mrs have been trying to figure out which big Prawns, banana's etc we visited.

I reckon the Big Prawn is in Ballina and the Greyhound stops there?

Plus, I think we saw the big Pineapple but can't remeber where it was?

Does anyone know why this has become such an Australian thing?

I reckon we should import to the UK. My current town Ipswich could have a giant Cow Pat outside it. My place of work Norwich could have a giant zero on the road in, and given I've just insulted two places, I better insult my home town of Cardiff which could have any of the following: Sheep, Leak, Max Boyce etc...

Any others?

Paul.

Have a read of Bill Bryson's book, he explains it much more aptly than I ever could.

I've heard there is a big macadamia nut somewhere in northern NSW and I remember seeing a giant sheep somewhere.
There was definitely a giant croc somewhere outside Darwin.

Just remembered - it's the giant merino sheep in Goldburn. Mmmm I've been to some great places.

Cas, that's one of the funniest parts of the book! You'll come to it in the first half of the book when yer man drives back from Adelaide to Melb'n and pulls in at the Big Prawn.....

They are all giant fibreglass structures. Their raison d'etre, if there is one, is hilariously examined by Bryson.

Don't you just love the man - did you read the his book about being in the UK as a young guy, being in a seaside b&b and the landlady talking about the counterpane and him thinking it was something to do with the windows?

I went to see him talk once, small ginger hairy man, as funny in the flesh as when he writes.

Couldn't agree more! I'd love to see one of his talks too. I bet they're really hard to get tickets for though....

Here in WA we have the Big Orange in Harvey.
Big Apple in Donnybrook.
Big ram or Merino in Merriden(or Narrogin?)

THere's a big kangaroo somewhere along the Nullabor.

I've been to the Big Pineapple too. I was 6. I remember a spider got in the lense of our video camera and my dad lost his sunglasses on the train
