Default Beware the Spyware

I know this site couldn't get buy without sponsorship etc and I can live with some popup banners but when I logged into today it tried to install 2 different lots of spywarewithout me requesting it

I suggest that everyone using this site downloads a copy of something like Adaware to see how much crap has been installed.

Wonder how long till this thread is deleted

What level have you set your 'privacy' (go to Internet tools in My Computer)?

Do Disk Cleanup from time to time.

Check out a few free but reliable download clean up disk progs such as Window Wiper, AVG etc.

Norton antivirus etc is the best thing out, well worth the £40. I had mega problems with porn, pop-ups etc before. Since I bought Norton I have not had 1 single ad etc get through.
In fact I didn't even know there were any ads on this site!

I think I am going to get rid of the Norton antivirus then.

Just a word we have Norton antivirus and we get pop ups all the time . Also i was recently informed that some emails i had sent with attachements which had come through ok on our computer were containing viruses when opened up.

Up until recently we would have said Norton was brill, but we are having to look at other avenues. Also on our old email addresses we are getting some seriously sick junk mail.

Glad it's not just me. I have serious hunch that when I logged off The Sun site (sad but true but I also usually look at Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, FT as well!) some rubbish porn pop up was appearing. Disk Cleanup on my PC cleared it up.

Tell me it's not true, Rupert Murdoch!

Disk Cleanup on my PC cleared it up.
Hi Don

The disk cleanup stops it happening because it deletes the cookies (No chocolate chips in these ones). I would strongly recommend getting Adaware as your disk cleanup is not getting rid of all the crap tracking entries in your registry and some software that sneaks its way in.

The link below will take you to a place to download it

HUP is something from my youth to do with w a band called the Wonderstuff

The flacid bit just bought a smile to my face in a childish sought of way. I might change it soon. The joke may be wearing thin now
Plus I feel flacid in this heat and working in an office that reached 36 degs with no effing air conditioning

I used to use the full Norton but it seems to take over the whole bloody pc. After the last format I started using avg. it auto-updates daily and I run the anti-virus program daily. For the spyware stuff I find Spybot does a pretty good job if anyone wants a copy drop me a mail.

Hi HUP,

I tried this earlier, it found loads of stuff to take out, (mostly from using Kazaa!)....but then something strange happened! A box keeps coming up saying something like 'System Shutdown...blah blah....initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM....blah blah..' with a timer countdown from 1min, then everything shuts down! It's not a Windows thing, it seems like one of these programs I removed got a bit upset.. Any ideas?
It's happened 3 times in the last hour, seemed to be after I opened B.expats, although it hasn't done it now....yet...

I had that problem when I removed the spyware from a program I think it was called webhancer or something similar, caused enormous probs at the time, run disc doctor and defrag after deleting your temp files and clearing history.:scared:
Good luck
