Just another thing i didnt mention not only are we getting ripped by fake foreign beer and not only are we paying export prices we are also getting less for our hard earned $$$$$$$$$$ the standard stubbie 375ml has now shrunk to 320ml so as we can see we are getting ripped left right & center why do the australian public allow this to happen the national pasttime is getting just too expensive even the home brew kits are at it !

what next ???

Dan Murphys do beers like Ottinger 5pct alc (german beer under a generic label I think) @ 29 dollars for 24 x 330ml bottles and Amsterdam mariner at around the same price. The CUB and Tooheys brands like VB Tooheys Red start at around 30 bucks for 24 x 375 ml cans... after that its pot luck... A cheap price for fully imported beer, would be around 39 bucks for anything from Lowenbrau through to Kingfisher. Imported beers are mostly in 330 ml bottles though.

Decent beer in WA shops (i.e. not the standard XXXX, Carlton rubbish) is often between $18 and $20 for 6 - you can get it cheaper if you look around but that is a pretty standard non-discounted price.

$20 for 6 bottles of 330ml. 8 or 9 quid for less than four pints??!!!

They've got Kronenburg 1666 on special at Dmurphys this week in Melbourne @ 15 dollars. I bought some earlier in the week. Yesterday I bought 6 bottles of 355 ml of Budweiser for 14 bucks again at Dan Murphys... however I now wish I hadn't bought the Bud... never again for that brand.

Coopers often rises to somewhere near the top as a popular beer - I've been on it for years - the Pale stuff. Other Australians have copied me. Crown is liked too. Don't subscribe to the view that all Aussie beers are crap.

I used to drink bitter in the UK after a brief lager preference as a teen - now can't stomach it at all. Funny how tastes change.

When you go to the pubs, you generally don't get pints, you gets pots (250ml) or schooners (375ml). Expect to pay $4+ for a schooner. Some places do sell pints and you would pay $6 for a local 'beer' and more for something imported.
What's fascinating is how popular measures and names vary state to state.
A schooner 425ml (15oz)in NSW, is called a pint in SA. I think the size is a good measure too.

Other states like VIC like the pot(10oz) - 285ml or pint (20oz). I believe that it is academic as you can ask for a 10oz, 15oz, 20oz if anyone, including the bar staff are confused.

There is even a glass - 5oz I believe.

Heiniken & Becks are both brewed at Tooheys in Sydney.

I love a Masham Black Sheep from Dan Murphy's - when they have it in stock

It tried it and thought it was OK. Does seem expensive - seems to be a beer that has had a good marketing/branding exercise behind it or something.

Although i grew up on pints i kinda like schooners because they still taste fresh by the time you have finished as pints tend to get abit warm as you are coming to the last drop but pots are really half pints and im no "ill av harf" kinda person plus hanging around at the bar trying to get served is abit of a drag so the longer the drink lasts the less hassle...

hit the nail on the head. Think a schooner is a great idea for civilisation. I'd have one in London if my character was not called into question.
