Default The Best Way To See Queensland

We are currently going through the visa process , and should have our visas towards the back end of the year. We have never been to oz so we are going on a recce mission in August for 3 weeks. Because you can only see so much in that time , after much research , looking at forums etc , we decided the place for us is queensland. We are looking at hiring a camper van so we can see as much as possible. If anybody has any experiance or general info which might help us it would be greatly appreciated , eg. places to see , good campsites with facilities for children , good beaches and good areas to live , etc

The Big 4 Holiday Parks have campervan parking areas, and tents etc., and normally have some facilities for kids.

It looks like they have plenty of places all the way up the QLD coast.

As you have already established, QLD is a big place. You may find yourself better off having a 5 days in 3 places and having a decent look around, giving yourself a night to get to each place and do some touristy stuff, than trying for a new location every night etc. With this in mind you really need to ask yourself whether you need a town/city nearby or not and if so, does it need to be Brisbane? Something you could also consider to save backtracking, is to drive from Brisbane up to (say) Cairns over a couple of weeks, and fly back to Brisbane, then just hire a car for a week to check out the Gold Coast/hinterland/Toowoomba/Brisbane area.
If you were to do this, then some of the larger towns en route you may wish to consider stopping at are; Sunshine Coast (lots of threads on here about those), Rockhampton, Mackay (Whitsundays for the touristy bit!) Townsville, Cairns.

Have a look at the map, do some research and see what you come up with. The more info about the sort of area's you'd like to live, the better we can help you! Map of QLD

Thanks for the info upto yet. Probably a good idea would be to look round some of the areas where it is more likely to suite our needs when we move over. eg I am a multi skilled maintenance engineer so an area with some engineering companies , but saying that I am willing to do anything , also we would prefer if possible an area in which in time buy an house with some land to it but not in the middle of nowhere , and not too far from the coast if this is possible ?

Thumbs up Re: The Best Way To See Queensland

Hi Guys,
We moved to QLD in August last year and rented a place on a six month lease to give ourselves time to adjust and decide where we would like to live on a long term basis. After a fair bit of looking about (QLD only) we have just moved into a house on the Sunshine Coast; just 20 minutes from the beach, 1 hour from Brisbane, 5 minutes to Australia Zoo (my 8 year old's requirement!) We just love the place. I highly recommend spending some time exploring this particular area when you're next over.

Hope this helps.
