Best step after PR....
 

What should be the next step after getting PR for australia. Someone told me that it is very difficult to get a job in australia. I have done telecom engineering and having three years of experience. So what should I do should i go for Masters in australia or i should go and look for job. I have also applied for canada immigration as well. My case in canada will take 3 years. My cousin living in canada told me that dont do masters in australia because with australian degree u will not be able to get a job in canada. He told me to do CCIE which will have its value in australia and in canada. He also told me to do my Master form that country where u want to settle.
So I am my native country waiting for australia's reply.
Should i try to apply on student visa to australia, so that i have 3 years in australia so to get australian passport till then my canada immigration will be complete then i will leave for canada.
My target is to have a good job even if it is in canada or australia. Ilove my field.

If you move here on a student visa you will not qualify for an Australian passport after 3 years.
You need to do more research on www.immi.gov.au and I would also suggest you make up your mind whether you want to live in Aus or Canada - two very very different countries.

Hey pollyana yes indeed both are two different country but they both speak the same language both are developed 1st world countries but still what differences do you see?

Is it the cultures in both the countries or the people. I've heard that people in Australia are more friendly... true Pollyana ?

Don't know, never been to Canada, but if you look through the lifestyle forum you will find several threads on the subject. For a start the climate is vastly different, and as a result much of the lifestyle choices are different. Come to that the UK is also a first world country speaking the same language, but is vastly different from Australia.

I'll move this thread there as you are more likely to get opinions on the differences.

my two cents,

I was born and raised in Canada but I've been living/working/studying in Qld for the past 2.5 years. The two countries in some aspects are night and day - especially in terms of working. The working culture in Canada (I'm from the West coast, Vancouverish) runs on longer hours generally and don't have that ingrained mentality of being able to shut off once Friday hits. The concept of happy hour is not as strong there as it is in Oz. As much as I'm generalizing here, Aussies do come across as friendlier and more laidback - then again this might have something to do with most of my friends are Qlders :P. On the other hand this isn't to say, all Canadians are snobby peeps..just hrm we're not as open if that makes any sense? :)

I assume you have your PR.

I would look at it from an investment point of view. A Masters is not cheap. CCIE is cheaper but you really need to know your concepts really well and be technically sound. Do you have your CCNP already?

At the same time are you ready to invest 3 yrs time and money for Canada when you already have your Australian PR in hand?

I would think looking for a job and getting your CCIE is a easier option than 3yrs+ AUD's or CAD's

Finally..you gotta make the call.

Thank you for your help. I have done CCNA till now.I have 1 other question can i do masters from Australia and Phd from Canada. Do Canadian Universities accept Master of Australia. Someone told me that Master from Australia and then going for Phd in canada, you will have to almost redo the Masters from canada again because the canadian universities will only accept a few subjects of your master. One other thing how is telecom job market in Australia and Canada? Which one is looking good at the moment. I will not value Canada or Australia, the only thing i value is job in my field even for that i have to do Phd.

IMO it is wrong to think of your value based on your educational credentials alone. With either Masters or PhD you'd be targeting mid level management and higher, where the work experience and your connections (REAL life connections mind you, not the internet gumbo) play more important role than education. Either of those are not built by jumping countries every 3 years - that is if you are 22 (ish) you may afford another, say, 5 years of running around, but if you are in your 30s, I would rather have settled in somewhere.

Hi Guys,

My case is abit more on strategy, i have more than 3 yrs experience in Telecoms...after my visa grant shud i start looking for jobs or enroll for a masters degree in telcoms right away... Please advise on what strategy shud i take on basis on job market and current economic climate in OZ.
