I used to be a member of Paddington RSL for the 1.50 schooners. A friend described it as 1970s style heaven's waiting room.
North Bondi RSL is good for a beer on the balcony overlooking the beach.

Come to think of it, Marrickville RSL used to be a great place to drink and eat (and gamble, if you're so inclined).
Huge dining room and fairly good atmosphere for what is essentially an old fogey's watering hole.
