Default Best places to get Real Ale in Aus

As a Real Ale nut I found myself really dissapointed at how unnaccessable it is in Aus. Took me a while to work out a couple of places, my favourite being in a town called Picton in NSW that sells a bock beer that is divine. When I head back for good I would love a string of places to check out. So there is the question, can you post your suggestions as to where to find it, and add what you yourself recomend.

Thanks Claire, though I hope some more people suggest somewhere a little closer for me to go to. I remember once going to Festival in Yorkshire from the South of England for the beer, but East Aus to West Aus would be one hell of a trip. But hey the brew could be worth it

Coopers Sparkling and one ot two others are Real ale in bottles ( a bit like the old Worthington White label). They still have active yeast in the bottle.

These are widely available.

I once found a Real Ale pub in Sydney but can't remember it's name

I was in the Lord Nelson last year and all the beer was keg I have seen real ales in there in the past so don't know if this is a temporary thing.

The other one was near the Rocks.

Slightly different angle, my brother was talking about importing some bottled stuff (the usuall half decent easy available quite cheap London Pride, ESB, HoBgoblin etc), but hed probly find he gets hit with high duty, so would therefore need to sell it at say 3 quid a bottle to make a small buck. I told him not to bother. You agree?

You can buy most of that there already. There is usually a specialist beer shop in most big towns.

I expected that to be the case. I think if he had the idea 15 years ago he might be onto something.

Kevingallen, my husband dave looked up from the telly when I read your post, and he has never done that over the last few days. He believes he has had the billabong bok, dark beer, 6 pints your in heaven with no hang over whatsoever. He wrote down the name to remind himself. I will look out to see if anyone suggests any other places where you can get this mystery drink that sounds like bisto gravy to me.
