New cars are only sold through franchised dealerships in Australia. Depending on the spec you are going for you should easily get over $5000.00 off a new Prado. But you do need to haggle - they won't give up their profit margin without some work on your part. You will get a better deal if you buy about a week before the end of the month and the car can be delivered before the end of the month. The dealers not only have a sales target but also a delivery target which is more important. People always say to look at the end of the month but it may be too late for delivery. Even if you comprmise a little on the colour to get quicker delivery - you will save thousands! Another tip is when you enter the showroom to negotiate you need to be prepared to buy the car there and then. No point wasting the salesman's time haggling if you intend to buy in a month's time. You will get a much better deal if they know that you will buy if you are happy with the price, they may even ask you "where do I need to be to sell you this car today?", name a really low price and work from there. However if a salesman says a price is impossible, it normally is - at the end of the day he/she want's to sell you a car as it is his job and he/she gets paid according to the number of sales, but they won't give their cars away either.
