Any will do me. I live in Canada and it is a similar state here when it comes to beers.
It took me about 3 years to settle on the one i like here. And that means a lot of drinking. trying to mot have to repeat the process.
Although it was quite enjoyable....LOL

If you like your real ale you are going to be very disappointed with decent beer in Oz, if you like cold fizzy lager with no taste you will be OK, be prepared to pay £4 to £5 a schooner which aint even a pint
Coopers is about the best though.

Have to say that certainly in Brisbane the pint is becoming more popular. It was very unusual to find a pub selling pints 8 years ago when I got here but now even some of the pubs away from the CBD do it. Same with the sale of cider and "proper" beer, rather than lager - I guess the demand is finally so great that pubs are listening

Pure blonde is okay but generally I buy Stella or Grolsch when we go to visit Mr Murphys. Expect high prices in the pub - I spent $17 on two pints of stella last night .....

Obviously it depends on what sort of beer you like.
At the moment Boston Mill's Pale Ale is top of my list.

Tetleys or John Smiths from Dan Murphy's (and Black Sheep when they have it).

I like Tooheys. Both extra dry and platinum - platinum is stronger and tastes nicer, but is more expensive so I only but it once or twice a year.
A pint of Tooheys from my local is $5

Re: Best beer in Australia
There are two types of beers in Australia;
The mass produced stuff owned by the huge corporations eg. Fosters Group which owns CUB in Melbourne and Lion Nathan which owns Tooheys and XXXX amongst many others and is in turn owned by Kirin which is part of Mitsubishi, (yes Tooheys and XXXX are Japanese owned).
These beers are produced for the masses, are meant to be drunk ice cold in the summer heat and not really appreciated, (in Australia it is customary to drink beer cold, mainly due to the warmer climate). For many they are simply a cheap way to get drunk, or just your regular everyday cheap beer. Some of them are not too bad really but certainly wouldn't win any international beer awards.
The other type of beer is brewed by the many small local breweries which exist both in the major cities and rural towns. These are run by people who, like vignerons with wine, are passionate about beer, both making it and drinking it. Many of these brewers have traveled extensively through Europe and studied the history of beer and how the different regional styles are produced.
There is a brewery/pub in my local area called Holgates which produces a wide range of specialist European style ales and lagers which are very good and apparently very similar to the real deal that are found in Europe, and get this, they are actually served at the 'correct' temperature (around 10C or so) at the bar. Holgates beer is available at major liquor outlets around Melbourne and Victoria and various pubs around the place.
These beers are found widely through major supermarket chains and bottle shops, especially in the local areas where they are produced, and are also often found in pubs and other licensed establishments through the country.
