Default Best Banks in Au

Just wondered if anyone can give us some info on whch are the best bank in Oz.

Want to open an account when we get there, have looked at loads of banking web sites, but would prefere to get some advice from ex-pats experiences with the banks over there.

Do they all charge a monthly fee or is that just some of them.

Will appreciate any help from you guys.

Be prepared to be launched back in to 1970's style banking. There are fees for breathing in Aus banks. Watch for charges for using other ATMs. Commonwealth have the most ATMs I think. ANZ are OK. BankWest are good for savings.

We use HSBC as our day to day account (fee free if you use the account wisely) and have this account linked to ING as our savings account at 6%.
