Can someone please tell me the nicest areas in Melbourne to live are for a family? Thanks

I don't live there, have only researched, but it seems the inner east is considered good but expensive. Perhaps going further south-east is the best option for outer suburbs? (I'm not sure.)

This is a difficult question to answer. It depends on what standard you’re
accustomed to and how much you have to spend. This might also depend on whether you
want the convenience of living near the city. If you intend purchasing and money is
of little concern you might try Armadale, Hawthorn, Kew, Glen Iris, Camberwell,
Balwyn, Canterbury and Malvern (all within about 12 kms of the city). Toorak is the
most exclusive/expensive suburb in Melbourne.

that most of the properties in these areas will sell by auction:

Most of outer Melbourne suburbia will suit you fine, east and south-east are the most affluent, south is becoming more affluent and North, North West and West are the working-class to poorer areas. The better state schools are always in the wealthier suburbs.

Just remember, you will need a car or two wherever you live.
