We got ours from the Good Guys. It cost us $1900 but is a good one Mitsubishi inverter model reverse cycle with lots of buttons I have no idea what do. We paid $600 to have it fitted and they did it on an internal wall and piped it through our fitted wadrobe to outside so no pipes showing. It all depends on the size you need to cool/heat. If its just a small room you may be able to get away with a window one which comes with a plug, but you will need to change the socket to accept the larger plug.

You've got it right. I bought Fujitsu Reverse Cycle Inverters from Retravision & am very happy with them.

I think you only have to worry if you do something stupid and burn your house down, think there is issues with insurance if that happends.

The fact that you can install anything a thousand times better than so-called tradesmen doesn't come into it.

This place lives by fear - drive 1KPH over the limit and get "demerit stars": install an overhead fan and your house will burn down and you'll get prosecuted etc etc. But I've seen more jerry-building in two years in Oz than in the rest of my life all over...........

In my experience most (not all) DIYers take a damn sight more care and do a better job than most trades. Takes longer, that's all.

True, but then you get DIYers like my dad who nearly killed us with his DIY shower install, or the time he decided to try and fix the washing machine lieing in a pool of water while it was plugged in shocking !

I'm an airconditioning and refrigeration mechanic. I would be quite careful because of the specialist tools required, plus you need an ARCtick licence to handle refrigerants. I don't believe it's a job for a DIYer, for many reasons, not withstanding the fact that the installation has to be leak free (as the high side runs at over 20 bar on a hot day). I am quite happy to offer any advice or information you may need or put you in contact with a REPUTABLE company.
Regards
