Default bereavement payment

Solemn subject but has anyone had any experience of the bereavement payment being made in the UK for someone on a temporary visa that has passed away in Australia?

I am lead to believe that once the pension is stopped that a bereavement payment is automatically made to the next of kin? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Oz

As I understand it you will receive this payment if you or the deceased were under state pension age
or
the deceased was not entitled to a basic state pension.

Hope this helps.
