been offered a job in tassy????

Hi there
My other half has been offered a job in tassy as a pilot with an offering of $55.000. we are currently buying a house in the UK and trying to weigh up which would be better off. whats the living like in tassy??? We would love to take come over as we have worked for the job offer, but circumstances change and really don't know what the out goings are.
If anyone can give us some inside advice, that would be cool

many thanks

Could be someone like Tassair - largely pleasure flights in very small aircraft, dream of a job but lousy pay wherever you are.

In modern times I think the myth of pilots being high earners is just that - a myth. Sure, some pilots like long-haul captains for European carriers earn big (how long this is going to last though....) but a lot earn shit. Airlines have been cutting back on everything. I read a Michael Moore book (a christmas present as I would never buy one!) a few years ago. He writes about talking to an airline pilot at an airport in the US. This guy was earning $16k a year and was on such a low salary that he qualified for welfare!

Pilots get paid bugger all in Australia that's why I gave it up. You would be better off in the UK. Pilots pay is better and the aviation industry is much bigger.

When I was building my hours up in Australia, it wasn't uncommom for pilots to pay an employer to let them fly their aircraft.

You should have a look at PPrune for Oz and NZ and see what people saying there about your prospective employer etc.
