Beaches in Melbourne region / gippsland ?
If you don't want to go to the beaches near the city or the peninsula, then where would you go to find nice clean beaches where it is not too crowded in summer? Pictures / experiences anyone?
For example, if we would be settling in between the peninsula and Warragul, where could we go to find nice secluded beaches where we can take the kids? Does anyone on this site live in that area and know of good beaches?
Cheers

Melbournes beaches are crap, ful of rubbish, dogs turds, junkies needles and no surf. However if you travel 1 hours or more either east or west of melbourne you get some of the best, most scenic and unspoilt, unpolluted
coastline and beaches in OZ if not the world. To the west you have the spectacular great ocean road and the surf coast, with many small scenic coastal towns and great swimming and surf beaches. The the East at Gippsland hundreds of miles unspoilt ruggard beaches next to scenic green countryside with rolling hills.
Melbourne beaches are crap , but country Victoria has some of the best beaches in the world, for surfing swimming, fishing boating or just for the coastal scenery.

Thanks for your replies!
I've been to Melbourne before, never in summer though. Hubby is from Melbourne. We don't like the touristy beaches and especially not the syringe beaches of St Kilda etc.
We just want nice clean beaches where we can take the kids, so not too much surf etc.
Wombat, when you say
, could you put names of places to that?? I don't feel like driving to Wilson's prom every time we want to take the kids to the beach.
Cheers
