I'll vote with the gas brigade but only for its convenience. Some prefer charcoal as you still get that "char grilled smoky flavour" and that is a definite plus. So if you don't mid the extra work, then maybe charcoal is really the way to go.

BBQ's have come a long way since their inception, and now you can pay up to the best part of $1000 for a state of the art thing.

Many local shires/councils have public BBQ's available for free use in some of their parks. Think some camping grounds provide them also, though there might be a charge.

You can buy a simple charcoal BBQ to do 2-4 people from $30 at places like Bunnnings and Mitre 10

gas is the only option. do not even consider anything else. turn it on, cook it perfect everytime. no messing about. also get one with a hood then you can always do a roast when youre feeling homesick. every now and again we do a roast on the bbq because we can. on the patio having a beer, the roast beef and vegies in the bbq while we have a dip in the pool to cool down. lifes good

We too have one of those bbq with the hood. We only bought it last year, cost a small fortune aswell so have decided to ship it over with our all worldly goods.

That sounds like a nice idea when you are feeling homesick, cook a roast while dipping and having a beer or wine. I'll bear that one in mind.

We have not done a roast in it yet, must try that soon.

Gas is best-Go for a good make like Beefeater-Ozzie made but worth the extra $.
