To the town or the motor races?
We stayed a night there on our way to Sydney, had a reasonable Thai meal, and then drove round the circuit the next morning. It also has the Big Gold Panner Man (or something similar). Nice place, generally. Motel was pricey though...
The races are a different matter. I have reason to believe that they're on the cards, potentially this year (the Bathurst 2000 rings a bell?). Apparantly the whole place is mad during them, and accommodation is scarce. Lucky for us we've got friends with parents near by!

Bathurst 1000, it's on every October after the long weekend. I go up when I can and stay at the track, Being a motor sport enthusiast. Hotel rooms around that time a hard to find unless you've booked it 1 year in advance. Any other time of the year you should have no troubles in finding accomadation.

They have the race at Puke now. thats the only NZ race at the moment. I was watching a program on the weekend about th V8s and they want to expand in years to come so they may want 2 races in NZ.
