Default BAS hassles

For anyone that has to do a Business Activity Statement I would advise getting it prepared early. The ATO allow for BAS statements to be lodged later if you do them online. I tried to do mine online only to find out that I couldn't

I'd done my last BAS online, but my computer had no record of my ATO password, or a digital certificate that the ATO send you. It takes about 10 days to get a new password and certificate, by which time my BAS will be overdue. The ATO technical support didn't have a clue. The guy basically said he didn't know what was up.

So after about 30 minutes on the phone, most of it to an automated waiting service I finally got it sorted out, but I'm still none the wiser as to why I couldn't do it online this time. And thankfully, it looks like I'm going to avoid a fine hew:

Nearly got mine done for the last quarter............ talk about red tape and unnecessary paperwork!!! I've got until the end of this month to submit it..... otherwise I guess I cop a fine?

My dad is still In Sir Charlie Gairdner's hospital.......... he's been there for almost 3 weeks now so they were quite okay about me being late with my BAS.

This will be the first quarter i haven't owed them GST, they actually owe me a couple of grand this term

I've got a bookkeeper coming in from now on in the new tax year; it's far too time consuming to do it myself.
