Angry Barclays Bank Accounts

Hello Fellow Expats,

I have just recently been informed by Barclays Bank that they no longer wish to services accounts with overseas addresses? Surely they are kidding, this can not be within the spirit of the game? Does anyone out there have recommendations as to which bank I should try and open an account, might be difficult given that I live here in Australia permanently and have done for many years, any tips or traps would be most welcomed?

Scroll down a bit and you'll find this thread which may be useful - Barclays CLOSING ACCOUNTS for Australian residents! Need another UK account!

Unfortunately the OP never came back to give details of the account they'd been told they could open, but there are tons of other threads with suggestions on if you search the forums.

HTH, good luck.

Why can't HMRC pay it into an Australian bank account. I receive pension payment from HMRC straight into my US bank.

HMRC will pay our pension into an australian bank.... but they issue a tax refund via a cheque in sterling, a pain in the butt

Aren't UK pensions paid by DWP, rather than HMRC?

A discussion I have had with them recently. They insist o tax cheques not transfers (even when two cheques have already been lost!). And the cheques can't be signed over to be put in anyone else's account either.
