Barbeques
well we've been here 10 months now and have so far managed to resist buying a barbie but friends keep nagging us into getting one... I'd much rather cook a nice meal and OH has no interest in cooking what so ever.. anyway been looking at them and farking hell which type to buy??
I would like to cook meat that melts in your mouth as opposed to a shrivelled snag that looks like you could sketch with it. Guess thats knowing what to do with them as opposed to which barbie? carcoal or gas? do you really need a sink, wok burner et al? is the old brick built one just as good? or is just a weber kettle type? I think the nicest thing I remember of past barbecues were those hickory type chip things you could chuck on the fire can you still get/use these with the gas ones? any help advice would be very much appreciated  |
Re: Barbeques
We have a basic gas barbie with a hood. Have to say we (as in hubby):p use it 3-4 times a week.

Love it jacqui Usually use it for meat, then do pasta/rice/noodles/potatoes whatever in the kitchen. BBQ also great for sweetcorn, veggie kebabs too though, and can do garlic bread on it also! Makes for good division of labour when it comes to cooking time! |
Re: Barbeques
Hiya ... go to Barbeques Galore (if you got one in Tassie) ... we did that when we came over and the salesman (from Tassie coincidentally) was really helpful, not pushy and we've gone back for accessories and get our gas there.
I'd suggest gas definitely with a hood ... stainless steel if you can afford it, if not get as an expensive model as you feel comfortable with ...and get a side burner. Like the other posts we use it 2/3 times a week ... but we've always liked bbqing even standing shivering in the UK! Oh ... the side burner ... great for using the wok on, and for making stuff like fish stock (eg for Tom Yum soup) ... you may not want your house smelling of that for too long ... Cheers ... David |

Re: Barbeques
Only downside with BBQs Galore is the prices...
We bought one from WA Salvage (no longer there, but Bunnings would probably be the next best thing) it's four main burners under the griddle and a separate ring for onions and stuff, with a hood, cost less than a couple of hundred from memory and been fab  |

Big W also have some good buys |
Re: Barbeques
We got ours from Kmart. One of Jamie whatsit on the tele ones. Good value and cheaper than Barbies Galore and the side wok burner is fab.
|
Re: Barbeques
Kmart does a range too.. four plate+side is arond $379.. but its iron not stainless
|
Re: Barbeques
Go have a look in BBQs Galore, then buy from bunnings or kmart etc - BBQG is hugely overpriced, IMO, you could build an extension for a new kitchen at the price of some of those BBQs! (BBQs/external kitchen suites!)
