Re: BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE HELP WANTED PLEASE
Flying with singapore in Jan and have an email from them stating that as long as migrating on permanent visa we are entitled to double baggage allowance (40kgs) and that is also for seats booked for children. As far as I am aware only Singapore and Emirates entitle you to the double baggage allowance. With Singapore you are allowed to stop-over for a few days but Emirates you cannot and not allowed outside the airport.
Hope this helps :) Nic |

Hello yes they do state that on your visa it must say that you are allowed to stay indefinatly. you could try and phone them, we flew with singapore and we spoke to them on the phone and they told us just to show our passports at the check in desk and that was fine. good luck

Re: BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE HELP WANTED PLEASE
Hi we fly out on the 26th (arghhh!:eek:) and after reading quite a few posts on here about people who had been told they could have double luggage allowance - only to arrive at the airport and have the same declined! I emailed Singapore and they emailed me back very quickly to say that we could have double luggage allowance (I have printed this out and shall take it with us to the airport)

Re: BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE HELP WANTED PLEASE
Just be careful with your suitcase weights. Most airlines will not allow know any single suitcase weighing over 26kgs, and if they are over will charge for every kilo over, regardless if you are within your 40kgs each.
Two of our suitcase were 33kg and 32 kg respectively and were told it would cost around £12 per kilo over, at American Airlines. It worked out cheaper to go to a shop and buy a large holdall for £40 and take stuff out of our suitcases. Watch out for those suitcases with the metal frames and wheels as one of ours weighed 8kg without any clothes. Bobby |

Bobby 26kg is more likely to be the weight ove which they will charge you for the extra - most airlines allow a few kg over the proper allowance before they start to charge. |

Hi Pollyanna, i think it changed in September. There was a big sign at check in stating that as of ????? September, suitcases over 26kg will not be permitted. This was via USA
Bobby If you are not on the 136 try asking anyway. I've read on here other travellers, not on the 136, have got an increased luggage allowance. If you don't ask... |

We too have sorted all this out with Singapore before we fly. Visa has to be 136 and flights HAVE TO BE 1 WAY. We were hoping to book a return for my wife as she has to come back for a wedding in June but they would not give the allowance on a return. Also Singapore asked for a fax of our visa and electronically issued the baggae allowance on our tickets via trailfinders who we booked with. We are booking from Ireland which may be different as will be flying Air Lingus to heathrow and then on with Singapore. I'd get everything in writing if I were you.

Bobby BA are now on their site quoting a 23kg limit, but it was known a while back that they were cutting their allowance drastically (just another reason to avoid them as far as I'm concerned!) and going out on their own to do it. It may be a rule on some of the airlines via the US, although Qantas are still quoting a 32kg per bag limit on their US route from Aus, and Cathay are still saying 32kg on all flights. If in doubt - contact your airline :) |
