Default Baggage allowance? Dublin-Melbourne via Singapore and Sydney with singapore airlines?

Hi Guys

We are flying next year to Melbourne from Dublin, we have heard that we can get 40kg each baggage allowance and 20kgs for our baby with singapore airlines.
How does this work with the bags from Dublin because I think you have to fly Aer Lingus from Dublin to London to connect with singapore airlines in heathrow. Has anyone done this?

We also want to stop in Sydney for 2 weeks to visit family but we are not so sure with the all the bags. (100kg)
Can we book the entire flight all the way to Melbourne with a 2 week stopover in Sydney or will we just have to book it as far as Sydney and book an internal flight to Melbourne?
Which means we will be stung for all the extra baggage!!!

Anyone any advice on what to do?

We were thinking to fly to melbourne first, drop off the bags, get settled for 2-3 days and then fly up to Sydney all refreshed, jet lag over and with none of the extra bags.

Any help appreciated.

Not sure with the Eire-UK flight with regards baggage allowance. But if you call someone like Trailfinders, they'll be able to answer all your questions with absolute clarity.

Why not do that stop off get over the Jet Lag and then go up to Sydney for 2 weeks. You know where you can leave the bags safely

The Dublin sector should be OK if you have a direct onward connection. Your problem is more likely to be if you do SYD-MEL as a separate fligth 2 weeks later. Having said that though, if you fly Qantas domestic the excess is charged by the bag, not by the weight, and its only about $22 per bag.
If I had the choice though, I think I'd go to Melborune, leave the luggage and then get flights up to Sydney as a separate trip, rather than taking all the bags with you.

Also (personal preference here) Melbourne international arrivals is much nicer than Sydney

Were flying Shannon - Sing - Sing - Melbourne in 2 weeks OMFG

We have the double baggage allowance and it counts with the Air Lingus connecting flight. You flights must be 1 way on the 136 visa for the 40KG. Ring S.A. to get the allowance electronically tagged to your ticket.

Maybe hire a car and drive from Sydney to Melbourne. Supposed to be a really nice drive doable in a day or 2?

Yeah we were actually thinking about that but have our little daughter who will be probably a year old by then so mightn't be a nice trip for her to endure but wouldn't mind it myself though!
Thanks gidxg03

Thanks Pollyana. Will probably do that as it will be too much hassle with all the bags (100kg plus all our carry-on bags) and a screaming baby and a pram and guess who will be looking after all that......
