Baggage Allowance
 

Hi

Anyone know if there is an increased baggage allowance for migrant flights either with Emirates from Glasgow via Dubai to Melbourne or with Cathay from Heathrow via Hong Kong to Melbourne?

Any comments about either company?

The `Girlie Questions` thread has been hijacked with details of baggage allowance. I`d also like to know if Cathay do it as theirs is the cheapest flight I have found so far (to Perth).

Hi,
we found out through a deicated agent Oz & NZ that if you go west via L.A. you get 32kg each doubled for migrant, cannot do stopover on one way fare and flight was £790 pp as you have to go on a migrants fare to get your babage allowance, cannot book a one way fare on the internet as they all require a return journey. Travelling with 1 year old we wanted a stopover so we decided to go via L.A. longer flight but 2 nights in L.A. included for £300 more than single fare quote earlier,if you want any more info send me a private message.

Thanks Tractor Boy - we had heard about going via US. I geuss you get what you pay for ie. if you pay more you get to take more!

We have friends in Hong Kong and it would be nice to stop off with them for a few days. Cathay seemed quite reasonable too. The Emirates option is also good for us - save going through H/row. Went JAL last time, Heathrow via Tokyo then Melbourne - but then extra luggage wasn't an issue!

We need to get a move on - we have to be out by 3rd week in May! :eek:

Hi all,
We spent the morning looking at flights and have found the best for us will be Singapore Airlines with one stop, there is 5 of us and its less than 2k.
We also rang and found out that if you send them your visa confirming that you are emigrating then they will increase your allowance from 20kg p.p to 40kg p.p.
Also get 32 inch legroom.

Tina is right!! As long as Singapore have seen the Visa in the passport 40Kgs is allowed. However, you can not have any one case above 32Kgs. Make sure you weigh them because if you are over you have to open your case in the middle of the airport and tranfer stuff to a lighter case. We went over by about 11Kgs and they wanted to charge something like 23 uk pounds per kilo. I kicked up a fuss and did a bit of begging and she let it go - Beware!!!!

No but Singapore Airlines deffo do double allowance for those with unused PR visas:

Dear Mr Clarke

Thank you for your email regarding migrant baggage allowance. Passengers
emigrating to Australia in Economy Class are entitled to double baggage
allowance if holding the correct visa.

The visa must be an unused migrant visa that states to remain in Australia
indefinitely. If you are holding this visa you will be entitled to 40kgs
baggage allowance on showing the visa at check in.

If you are not holding the correct visa then we will only be able to waive
5kgs to bring the total baggage allowance to 25kgs. This again will be upon
check in.

All passengers are entitled to 1 main piece of hand luggage at 7kgs.

We do not offer discounted fares for migrant travellers.

If you are travelling with an infant that is not occupying a seat, then
please make a booking for the people who are, then contact our Reservations
Department on 0870 6088886 to add and pay for the infant. The infant ticket
is 10% of the adult fare. If you wish for the child to occupy a seat then
you will need to pay a child fare. When making the booking online for an
infant travelling as a child, when adding the date of birth amend it to be
over the age of 2 years and then call our Reservations Department to change
it back.
