bad plumber

Hi, has anyone got any ideas on getting back a plumber to fix a leak, we have just payed $20,000 for a new kitchen, and the plumber on a stop valve cant have put enough tape before screwing it on, for 2-3 weeks now we have had to put a little container under it as that is all the space under it.

its not a bad leak, but still a leak, would I stand a chance of getting my money back if i got someone else out and then charge him what they charge me.

the plumber is a contractor to the kitchen fitters so no ties there, any ideas. Paul

Plumbers have to be licensed, have you tried contacting the licensing board and get their advice? They do have a complaints procedure as we were going to complain about the plumbers that came to our house and fell through the ceiling.........

Good luck

Hi Paul,
So can I assume you have tried to contact the plumber and are not getting a response? If thats the case, I suggest you send him a letter via registered mail informing him of the leak, and remind him that should the leak result in any water damage he would be responsible for repairs. Also specify a date by which you expect the problem to be fixed, don't leave it to long this connection is just a drip now, but it could totally fail, and flood the house!
All the valve probably needs is snugging up a little, a plumber would charge 1 hrs labor to fix.

All plumbing/gasfitting work must be certified (c.o.c).

Have you asked for the original fitter to return to correct the problem?

If you have no joy, you should then speak to someone from the office of technical regulators who can offer further advice.

Good luck.:)

Turn off the main, drain the circuit, undo the fitting, wrap plenty of PTFE around it and re-tighten.

It's about as difficult as blowing your nose....

Two things, 1 I have just had surgery on right shoulder and not allowed to look at tools, and I couldnt ask a friend to do it just incase it did go wrong.

I have phoned him upteen times to sort out a time and he is always too bl##dy busy and when we sort out a time he dont turn up and says that he got held up else where.

I payed him $710 for a 10 min visit when the kitchen was being fitted and a morning to re connect the gas for the hot plate and plumb in the sink so he done well out of me, so why wont he come and fix my leak. Paul

I know he sub contracts to the kitchen company but ring the kitchen company and tell them. We recently had Kitcraft fit our kitchen and while they used contractors to do the electrics and plumbing they pretty much all worked for Kitcraft full time. I am not sure if this would be the case with your Kitchen company but it is worth a stab. If he thinks he isn't going to get more work with the kitchen company you may well find he comes back and fixes your job. I was warned off using the kitchen firms contractors for purely this reason. good luck.
