bad day

Just having one of those days today. Not sure if we have done the right thing coming here. We live in Mountain Creek about 5 min drive from Mooloolaba beach. It all sounds great on paper but when your heart isn't always init you start to think 'was it all worth it' Hope this will pass. Time will tell as they 'say' but while you are waiting for time to tell you still have to feel down. Anyway we will see. It's times like this that you miss your friends and the familiarity of things. 'Time will Tell
Thanks

Know what you mean. If I had a return ticket the first week we got here I would've been on that plane. Been here just over three weeks now and although it eases the thoughts of 'was it all worth it' is in the back of my mind. I keep clinging on to the time will make it easier. In the meantime I'm trying hard to stay positive. Friends have been great sending parcels and texts and my mum sent me her very first email!!!

Cheers

Ginny

Re: bad day

Usually things improve after a nights sleep. I have been here a year yesterday and during the first 3 months or so I could easily have gone back to the UK. However, as time has progressed I have started to feel more and more settled. Now I want to stay here for a good few years yet. After that time who knows. Maybe a place in France and something here and do the chasing the seasons bit - time will tell.

I am not saying that everything is great here. The one thing that bugs the hell out of me more than anything is the driving. They nearly all drive with blinkers on. I am not sure if they realise that they have wing or rear view mirrors or that they see other cars on the road, apart from the ones immediately in front of them!

I know what you mean about the driving they are all idiots and think that everyone else is in the wrong. We have been in Australia a year next month. 8 months in Toowoomba (don't ask) and 3 months in the Sunshine Coast. Guess which one is better !!!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad it's not just me (cause you feel like that) thanks for the replies they have cheered me up.
cheers
Julie

You say "Guess which one is better" but you still don't sound very happy

We love it in Toowoomba so it just shows how important it is to do your research before you come to a place I guess......

We've been here for 14 months and had a few moments when we've been down and thought should we go back. The problem with that is that life moves on. Going back isn't out of the question but it is unlikely to be the answer. If you went back it wouldn't be the same and if it was then it probably wouldn't improve your life. You moved on from that part of your life for a reason.

We weren't unhappy with our previous life, maybe a little bored so we made the move to the Sunny Coast. It hasn't been easy. It's been stressful for us for several reasons such as earning enough, poor job satisfaction, few friends, culture shock, the general hassle of settling in but we've fought all those problems and it's getting easier. Take the time to try to appreciate the wonderful place you live in.

I've sat on the beach or on the top of Mt Coolum in recent months and thought yes this a fantasticly beautiful place but its being ruined knowing I have to go into that stressful job tomorrow that I don't enjoy and am not getting paid enough for. But it has got easier by battling and not giving in. I've changed jobs which has been an improvement both in well being and financially. We've made some more friends and would like to make more. We still have issues to face like buying our first home as we are still renting but we will get there and I know its going to get easier.

We still get annoyed by little things like not having the choice in the Supermarkets or the poor quality of television or no broadband availability but so what. The Sunny Coast is really an amazingly beautiful place to be if a little expensive. My daughter is annoyed that there isn't an ice skating rink here but then look at the fantastic beaches, rivers and lakes shrouded in fantastic weather. The shopping isn't too bad and there's good cinemas, restaurants, Zoos, watersports, beautiful wildlife.

I think the answer when you are down is to try to forget what you miss. Instead concentrate on what there is on offer here and fight to get it.
