Back on again....hoorah

This is a long one I would grab a cuppa/alcoholic beverage or even a mild sedative.

I have been lurking on the forum for well over a year and even posted a couple of times. OH and I have been wanting to move out to OZ for ages, went on rekkie to Perth last August and loved it. Not 100% sure that this is where were going to end up but it was defo a good start.

Came back from rekkie informed my family of our long term plans - they where pleased for us, a bit sad as we are very close but still very pleased. On this positive note we decided to inform my OH family......not a great response in fact it was terrible, can't go into details but the reaction was so over the top and severe it really jolted my OH and plans were put on hold (to give them time to get used to the idea). Well 8 months on emotions are still very high, the reaction is still the same - so much so that we can't even mention the 'A' word!

I have still been very keen on the whole idea but have with some 'gentle nuddging' pushed my OH to make a decision and that is, the whole thing is still on; so much so that we are completing the forms tonight!!! Hooray!

Now we just need to decide where we are going - Perth or Melbourne. So I am going to be on the forum quite a bit asking tonnes of questions.

My first question is this though.....everyone seems to have loads of problems filling in the forms. I was wondering if that was due to complications with family work etc? I more or less completed the form (47 136 independant) and unless I have missed out a major section the 37 pages seem pretty straight forward. To be honest it is just me oh and 3year old and we are married no other kids partners family complications (except for the outlaws) and we have had positive skills assessments done. Am I looking into this too much?

Thanks in advance

Hi Didigriff

Good luck with your application -Can't help you with the location as we are off to Sydney although I am sure there are many people on here who will let you know about certain areas.

As far as the application goes, we filled out a 47ES ourselves and have had no problems -You just have to check and double check I guess. We now have a case officer, less than a month after submitting it, although that probably isn't down to whether we, or an agent filled the forms out!

Anyway, hope all goes well and that the in-laws come to accept it.

My parents are really supportive, they already have the party and holidays planned and have started to look at their own visa. My OH has not told his family yet we dont think we will get the same positive reaction, but only time will tell.

Thanks for the support.

OH family is complicated not 'normal'; whatever that is. I know they love him, our child and even me (sometimes) but I wish they could see that this is for our daughters future - we want to give her the best we can and think that OZ and the lifestyle it offers is great for her formative years, hopefully we can woRk part time and spend lots of precious time with her. We may be wrong but as her parents we feel we are making the best decision we can.

We currently live in the Midlands and whilst it has some very good points (loads of bad too but don't want to be contraversial) we just want to try an alternative. OHs family suggested a move to Europe (Greece in particular) but we tried to explain this wasn't the point that it was Oz or bust but they could not get their heads round it. Nor did they understand that the nature of our jobs (I'm a scientist my OH a teacher) we needed to be in an english speaking country or be very limited in our career choice - and anyway we REALLY LIKE OZ!

But I am glad it is all sorted now, we may hate living there and be back in 3months but at least we will have tried it and no amount of emotional blackmail will have impacted our decision (I hope).

Cheers again.

Good luck! My family have been difficult to say the least...We're off on 31/07 to Melbourne, despite our reccie being in Perrth! Shortage of PE teachers in Melbourne made up our minds where we were going! Never been! My OHs parents have been very supportive, but I get the feeling that they are hiding the sadness and real feelings? My family are wearing theirs on their sleeves! Good luck. It will be worth it in the end!
