They appear to have placed or are about to place an offer on above place (believe its $800k+) so short of driving out there myself :

Any views/experiences from posters living or having had lived out that way?

What is the train journey like into Melbourne?

Social scene? Childless couple 20 years away from retiring. Dont need too work but do to keep minds active.

We were in that neck of the woods a few weeks ago. Its a nice area, but the only bit of useful information I can give you is that the Deer Park by-pass is now open and has cut the journey time into the city, I think it takes about 35 minutes or so now. Lots of orchards and berry farms out there.

The couple are Italian (he is a writer, she is a chef). They were encouraged to look at this area apparently by their parents who have friends from their hometown who moved to Australia in the 50's (so no doubt a bit of self interest on their parts).

Is the 35 mins Train or Car? as my Sat nav said about 1 hour 8 mins (or maybe I need an updated DVD). He currently trains to Naples twice a week (2 hours one way) so don't think anytime under an hour will bother him. She on the other hand:unsure:

I think although the house appears big I dont think the layout and room sizes will suit them - think they were smitten by the view. Also pointed out to them about the pool (neither can swim:rofl:).

They should search some bayside properties - though Mornington Peninsula might be too far from the city for them. Alternatively, they could probably get a very snazzy property in the Dandenongs for their budget - with sensational views....

That rumour about our weather is what they are attracted too:p. They also are not interested in being near the sea:confused: they want rural. I think they are also worried about the recent fires:unsure:

That could be the best bet for them then. I've only ever driven through, but it is like a little oasis of colour in the middle of a harsh landscape. Would they 'gel' with rural folk though? I suppose Eltham/Warrandyke would be too forested for them?

They are very easy going laid back people. They tend too shy away from the bling of your typical inner city socialising and prefer glass of wine, good book by open fire than boisterous pub.

I think he will hit it off easily with locals (his knowledge of Melbourne is from watching "The Sullivans":o and talking with friends of his parents). He is very keen to have a go at AFL. He has a very quick wit and great sense of humour.

Around 35 minutes or so in the car, possibly a little longer (I was judging it to Altona), but definately under an hour. The Deer Park by-pass has recently opened and cuts the travel time down, no traffic lights to stop at any more!

Didn't realise they were Italian till my 2nd look at your thread .... Bacchus Marsh is 2nd only to Werribee as a Market Garden area... Thus there are plenty of Italians around there.

Looks a bit bleak up the Hill, I'm sure newly arriving Italians with their safety first attitude, as born out by their love of concrete, will love the area.

I thought there were stage 4 water restrictions at Bacchus Marsh though, that assuming they are on Town Water up that hill.

Probably get to the CBD on a quiet Sunday Arvo in less than 50 mins.... 40 if you are willing to break the speed limit... very easy freeway drive in.

I wouldnt live there myself though ;) My BIL and plenty of the old Sunbury Mental Health nurses lived around there, and I've spent plenty of time in the locale... I prefer the close by Forested Areas Macedon, Riddells Creek, Gisborne, Bullangarook and Woodend. There again they are dead dangerous in Summer now.

When was Mornington on the Sullivans:confused:
