Baccalaureate/A levels

I have just recently chosen which A levels I would like to continue at school however with the prospect of possibly moving out to Australia, I was told that A levels may not be the best choice and that I should possibly opt. for baccalaureate, which would mean leaving my current school. I have read up about the course and it does not sound as appealing to me as the options I have chosen already. I was wondering if anyone going to, living in or back from Australia could give me any tips on what is accepted. Would I be better off taking my A levels here -are they acknowledged and recognized in Australian Schools and Universities or is baccalaureate the way to go?

Any experiences, views or opinions are greatly sought after and would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Pommy babe. :)

Hello

Not sure this is any help but....

do you mean you're looking at a school that teaches the International Baccalaureate diploma? I'm a teacher and have taught 'A' levels in the Uk, and now teach the IB diploma in the Caribbean. Depending what subjects your school is offering, I can tell you that the IB is an excellent programme and really not much different to the AS/A levels. And it's accepted by colleges and Universities worldwide - I know some of the private schools in Australia teach the IB programme.....

I'm not in Oz yet so I can't tell you what their Universities are asking for, but it might be worth checking their websites - maybe drop some emails to the admissions people?

Good luck :)

I have a daughter and she would be interested in this, if she continued studying in the U.k. until we went over and she completed her A-levels would the Oz Universities let her in with A-level qualifications or does it have to be an Oz qualification i.e. HSC???

Yes Oz Uni's do accept A levels, why do you think so many people decide to go study in Aus !!! one of Oz biggest tourist attractions.

They accept most other countries equivelent of HSC A levels etc etc.

Oz private schools/International schools also teach the BL diploma system.

I am 35 this year so a slightly older student.

I want to do a couple of A level's before I return to Oz to then down the track do a degree in Australia.

The colleges in the UK keep pushing me into an Access of Higher Education course, has anyone gone on to do a degree in Australia with a UK Access to HE cert?

Cheers
Merlot :)
