Default Baby Seats in Oz. Should we bring our own new funky car seat

I have just been told that the car seat we have ( new M&P's latest model ) will not be suitable in Oz. We have been told that Oz insurance requires a baby seat to be bolted in.

As you will know most car seats in the UK are transferable and do not impede your insurance rights.

Can anyone out there confirm our fears?????? Will we need to sell before we go or can we still bring the car seat and not impede our insurance rights.

Do a search on car seats and baby seats, its been discussed a lot recently, and generally I'm afraid UK seats are illegal here because they cannot be fixed to the car. If you use most - if not all - UK seats, your insurance is invalid, and you are breaking the law into the bargain.

have a look here : http://www.bubhub.com.au/infocarseats.shtml

Let me know how you go theough as we will be in the market for a new toddler seat & a new baby seat when we go.... BTW: when we took our son Jonah to Aus at 3mths we rented a car with a car seat for him, but as he was younger than 6 mths they would only give us a "Capsule" which was a kind of rear facing carrycot.

Thanks again, looks like we will need to sell our baby seat before we go.

You could always use it to transport the nipper on the journey over. If too big for bassinet and you buy a seat for him/her. Just a thought.

Do you have to take the car seat on the plane? Harry will be 2 when we go, so will have his own seat. Would rather give the car seat away here rather than dump it when we get there.

Don't think they have to but it would be more comfortable for him in his car seat than rattling around on a normal seat. Could make for a more "comfortable" flight for you too
