baby car seat safety

Maybe this is why Uk baby seats are illegal in Australia? I have no idea what AU seats have to be tested to but hopefully it is a crash test faster than 30MPH

CAR SEAT SAFETY FEAR

Inferior child car seats which fail to meet stringent safety requirements are on sale in the UK, new research shows.

A Which? report says the poorest quality seats would not adequately protect children in the event of a severe crash.

Each of the blacklisted products have passed minimum legal standards and would protect against injury in an accident at 30mph.

But they do not pass more stringent crash test conditions of 40mph with side-impact.

Some are difficult to install which can increase the risk of injury in a crash, Which? said.

The poorest quality child car seats named by Which? include the Navetta Carry Cot, the Elan and the Passaggio which are all supplied by the Huddersfield-based company, Mamas & Papas.

Another three of the "inferior" seats are manufactured by Britax, according to the consumer group. These are the Cruiser Plus, the Ranger and the Trio.

Which? editor Malcolm Coles said he was disappointed that "inadequate" child car seats were still on sale.

"We think simply making child car seats safe enough to pass the minimum safety test is downright irresponsible," he said.

A statement by Mamas & Papas said: "All our products comply with the current level of safety requirements for child restraints, the standard ECE R44/03, which is subject to a regime of continuous testing and revision.

"If the technical experts feel that current standards require revision, then Mamas & Papas will be happy to comply with any revised specifications immediately."

Britax said in a statement that all its products were rigorously tested and complied with European regulations.
