Hiya,

I work in the avionics business too. (Customer support engineer for the OEM of some of the A/C computer systems)
Anyway - Im moving to Brisbane. According to a friend I made in the Brisbane Airport Corporation (www.brisbaneairport.com.au) Brisbane has been selected to become Australia's centre of excellence for all things aviation related, and a lot of A/C manufacturers, operators, etc are moving their maintenance facilities there. These include Boeing, Virgin Blue, Cathay, etc.
Its still growing, and it looks promising.

Good luck!

W.
