Yes a newly qualified nurse would get that ammount, but the salary rises quickly. So using myself as an example, l have 7 years fulltime equivalent experience as a nurse with a specialist qualification in my area so my salary is about $62,000 including a conservative ammount for shift allowance and excluding super paid by employer. Most people coming from the UK will have to have some experience. Karen

Reminds me of the 1973 song by the Dingoes (written by Kerryn Tollhurst of Country Radio fame, sung by Broderick Smith) called 'Way out West' which included the lyrics:

Way out west, where the rain don't fall,
Got a job for a company, drilling for oil,
But it's oh so hot, living and working on the land etc
.....They gave me a house made of fibro-cement
.....But the pay is good living and working on the land etc, etc

As said, mining wages boost (skew) the WA average. Perth pay generally speaking doesn't equate with that in Melbourne and Sydney. Averages can be misleading, generally speaking.

"Someday I'll have money,
Money isn't easy come by,
By the time it's come by,
I'll be gone,
I'll sing my song and
I'll be gone" (another famous song of the era)
